Emmanuel Malin

I’m sitting here trying to pinpoint the exact thing I like about this artist, and I’m having a hard time. Part of me wants to say its the sheer imagination of it all, the reckless loss of consciousness that really draws me in. But, I also can’t help but love the line-work, the juxtaposition of positive and negative shape, the textures…….

Henry Darger

Henry Darger is the ultimate example of outsider art. He lived and died as a custodian in Chicago, and upon his death when they cleared his room, people found a 15,000+ page manuscript and some several hundred illustrations. Never making art for anyone but himself while in his own little world after work, these illustrations really show some innocence and magic.

Check out the documentary, recently winning the Toronto Independent Film Festival, In the Realms of the Unreal. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390123/

Sanjay Patel

Sanjay Patel is a supervising animator and storyboard artist at Pixar. Recently, I borrowed a book from the library about the Ramayana, an Indian traditional story, and the illustrations were incredible! I highly recommend it, if only as candy for your eye (though the story itself is wonderful! I love mythology!)

Carl Warner

In honor of the holiest of holidays, here is Carl Warner. He is most famous for his “still-lifes”, where he composes images of real food into little landscapes. He then lights and photographs them, and VOILA.  Foodscapes are born.

See what kind of environments you can create on your plates today. If your mom tells you to stop playing with your food, tell her I said its OK.
