Enrique Fernández

This is why I started this blog – to widen my mind to artists like this.  Enrique has the best design and shapes, never mind color concept, of any artist I’ve yet to feature. (Though, this could be debated thoroughly.) His ability to render with such confidence, only detailing areas where it is absolutely necessary, and also to create new but comfortable designs is astounding. I feel like I’m seeing a familiar world for the very first time, and I absolutely never want to leave.

So, I’m not really that into concept art. I feel like it has to be churned out so fast, with so little emotional connection and way too much “WOW” factor that things tend to become too stereotypically dramatic.  Combine this with often overused and not subtle photo manipulations and texture droppings, and there is a recipe for too-quick art.

But, then an artist comes along that just shreds that whole perception to pieces.  These are wonderful, beautiful and poignant. Definitely a completely new class of illustration, done with finesse and confidence that is incredibly awe inspiring and refreshing.

There isn’t a single piece to not be blown away by, at his blog:

So, if I were still in High School and saw this artist, I don’t think I would have gone into art at all. I think my head would have exploded – and I’d be dead. Its nice to go back and find your original kind of inspiration, to not be ashamed you loved Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Toonami. Or wait, is this just me?

Amazing character designs, partnered with fantastic draftsmanship? Now that’s something we can all agree on.

Daisuke Tsutsumi

Also known as Dice,  Daisuke is one of Pixar’s lead concept artists. I first heard about him on my trip to Japan a few summers ago. While I was living there for 3 months, my boyfriend and I saw Toy Story 3 at a local cinema in Kyoto, and were overwhelmed by the film. After seeing Dice’s art, it is easy to see how TS3 became such a beautiful film.

I’m purposefully only showing you a few of his works : I was you to go to his blog and just SEE the genius that this guy is.  Everything, absolutely everything, is perfect. Seeing artists like this not only inspire me, but terrify me if this is my competition in the world! Thanks Dice, for making the art world a little brighter with your works.

Maciej Kuciara

So, every now and then an artist comes by and really reminds you why you work so hard to be in art. Maciej is definitely one of those guys….! Though, I have no desire to go into digital concept art, this guy definitely reminds me why I’m doing art period. If you haven’t heard of him by now, note: I’ve never claimed all my posts would be “underground” or “undiscovered” before, you absolutely MUST look at his blog. He is very prolific, and it was pretty hard choosing only a few to feature here…..
