Elena Kalis

Elena Kalis does water photography, and though some of her portraits are reminiscent of stock-photos of a families way-too-unrealistically-happy-vacation, most of her work lurks somewhere in the ethereal. Where she really lets her imagination flow uninhibited is the work I love the most – like her series of Alice in Wonderland portraits and where she plays with the surface of the water as a sort of portal.  Most people know me as a sucker for color, and Kalis’s work certainly doesn’t ever disappoint there….

Spirit Photography

So, way back when photography was first invented, people were astounded by all the new-fangled things they could do with this technology. A lot of people’s first reaction was “Hey, how can we better ourselves and society with these advancements?”. Other people quickly went “How can we con people into giving us money?” It is in the latter that we were given spirit photography: people who used the normal disadvantages of the slow-processing cameras to fake interactions with the spirit realm. Some of the creations are genuinely spooky, where others remind me of that one time through that carnival haunted house…..

Carl Warner

In honor of the holiest of holidays, here is Carl Warner. He is most famous for his “still-lifes”, where he composes images of real food into little landscapes. He then lights and photographs them, and VOILA.  Foodscapes are born.

See what kind of environments you can create on your plates today. If your mom tells you to stop playing with your food, tell her I said its OK.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Spencer Tunick

Working in installations, Spencer  brings together hundreds (sometimes thousands) of people in cities across the world and gets ‘em naked. Its pretty fascinating to see all the different body shapes, how unique each one really is when next to a hundred others, and also see them all blend into one dependent shape. Its a really great perspective on culture, as well….

Aaron B. Heimlich

Recently went to a fabulous opening show of A Second Story (http://asecondstory.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/aSecondStory?sk=info), a gallery/studio ran by some friends of mine (who are AWESOME by the way). Ran into some old friends, new friends, and people I really want to be friends with but never really talk to (I’m a good across the room stalker). Here was the artist exhibited this time around. A really great collection of work.

Artificial Owl

I’m pretty fascinated by decay – I’m sure there’s some sort of subconscious philosophy going on there, but Hell if I know what it is. Is the the  inevitable mortality involved? The wasted resources? The palpable air of man’s touch on nature, only to be reclaimed regardless?

Who knows. Enjoy these pieces for whatever reasons you’d like.
